Japanese Crochet Doily Book

I just got a new Japanese Crochet Doily Books.  One is mainly are Pineapple Doilies, the other one is "motifs doilies".  They both are very beautiful books.  The patterns are very unique and gorgeous.  The best part about these two doilies is that they have crochet charts.  I love crochet doilies, but I hate reading instructions, because they always confuse me.  With crochet chart, it is so much easier.

Also, there are not too many "motif doilies" and "pineapple doilies" books in US.  I really love to do motif doilies, because they are very small, it doesn't really take much time to do it.  I have 3 years old boy, I really don't have too much time that I can sit down and crochet without interruption.  So crochet motif doilies are perfect for me, I can crochet one small motif one at time.

This is my favorite doilies book ever, the patterns are stunning, and I love it comes with crochet charts.  I have so many vintage doilies books, but I never really crochet it, even though they are gorgeous.  It is because the written instruction always confused me.  I hate written instructions.  I think last several crochet projects I did are "charted".  None of them are written instruction.

DIY Doily Clock Tutorial

 

Recently, I fell in love with crocheting doilies.  But I don't know what to do with them.  I am thinking to frame it, but then I have a hard time to find the frames that I like and the price is right.  Then I thought maybe I can just glue in a piece of painted wood.  It will be cheaper than a frame and it adds more personality.  However, I am not an artist, I don't really paint, so I looked at my fabrics stash, I have so many nice fabrics that I bought from Japan which I planned to make purses.  And one idea after one idea, Dada....  My Doily Clock is born!

Anyway, I went to AC Moore to look for a piece of wood, and I found something better than my original idea, I found a wood box.  It is better to hide the clock than a piece of wood, and I think it looks better too.

here is a little tutorial:

Materials:
- Doily
- Wood Box (you can buy it at chained craft stores)
- Clock (you can buy it at chained craft stores)
- Fabric
- Fabric Glue

First, drill a hole in the center of the wood box.

 

Then, glue the fabrics on the box, I used spray glue which I have at home, you can buy this at craft stores.

Put the clock on the wood box.

Glue the doily on the wood box.  I used regular fabric glue.

Put the clock arms.

Dada...  Doily clock is done!!  I called it Love Clock, because my hubby and I made it together.  :)

My first Doily from Japanese Crochet Book

Recently, I fall in love with doilies.  I have never crocheted doilies before.  So I found some Japanese Doilies Patterns online, I love Japanese Crochet Patterns, because they have charts, I am more visual type person, it is much easier for me to follow charts than written instructions.

I have some vintage doily patterns from 40s, but I was so confused with the written instructions.  That is sad!  I hope I would be able to figure out, I would love to try the vintage doily patterns, they are so beautiful!!
