I made another diaper cover, this time I used a baby bloomers pattern (McCall's M6058), it turns out not too bad. I had a hard time with the instruction, it is too vague, not detail enough, I was really confused, I made tons of mistakes. End up, some part I had to do it my own way. It probably is my problem, coz I am not an experience sewer.
The bloomers is reversible, so one side, I used cute cotton fabrics, the other side is PUL. It looks pretty good when you look far away!! haha... But the elastic on the legs are little bit too tight, it left rings on Lukie's legs, and the back piece seems a little short , so his prefold will show when he wears the diaper cover. But it could be my problem, coz I did it my own way, maybe if I could be able to follow the instruction, the back wouldn't be short. However, if he wears it as a bloomers, it fits well. I am very happy with the result. I am making another one, but it is half way through. Can't wait to finish it!
Crafting gives me joy and peace. This blog is all about my favorite craft such as Watercolor, Calligraphy, Sewing and Crochet.

First Diaper Cover
Lukie's diaper covers are getting tight and old, it left "ring" on his legs, even though it is an adjustable, supposed up to 30+ lbs. And it starts to leak around the leg areas, I don't want to buy more, so I decided to make my own. Last week, I bought the PUL and some patterns at JoAnn. I bought 3 different patterns, one is diaper cover, one is bloomer and the last one is panties. I planned to sew the PUL as linning for the bloomer and panties, so Lukie doesn't need to wear prefold, diaper cover and short. I think it will be too hot in the summer. So I came up this idea that bloomer and diaper cover 2 in 1. I just cut the fabrics, then I noticed that I traced the pattern wrong, so now I have to cut the fabrics again, what a waste!! Coz I can't reuse the fabrics and PUL. I wish the patterns are easier to trace, they are so light color, hard to read.
Anyway, last night I sewed the diaper cover, it seems very easy and simple. I used McCall's pattern M6108, but I was wrong, it is hard to do the way the instruction says, coz the PUL is very hard to sew, the tension is always off. So I didn't follow the instruction at all. And the size is not really fitted, I sewed size S for Lukie, but it is very loose. I am not too happy with the diaper cover, but it could be me. Coz it is the first time to sew PUL and elastic, it was very challenging for me. I will try again later, if Lukie let me. He is really needy!! :P
And I don't have Velcro or plastic snap buttons at home, so I used metal snap buttons I bought long time ago, so far it seems ok. I am not sure that do I want to buy the KAM snap press or plier, it seems too much investment.
The diaper cover may not look good, but it works fine, so far it didn't leak at all.

Treasure at Thrift Store Part 2

This morning Lukie and I went Thrift Store shopping, I found some goodies for Lukie and myself. I bought a diaper cover (pull up style, which I plan to make) and few very thin cloth diapers at Goodwill, they seem to be brand new, never used. I plan to use the cloth diapers for cleaning or something else, they are too thin to use.
Then I found several vintage sewing books at Pet Retail. I am very excited when I saw the vintage sewing books, I just have a thing to vintage craft books, they are just soooo cool!! hehehe.. The books I bought are: McCall's Step by Step Sewing Book (1969), Simplicity Sewing Book (1967), Sewing for Men and Boys by Simplicity (1973) and Singer Manual for Model 634. The sewing books are 50 cent each, the manual is $2. I don't really sew garments, but I would love to do it one day. The books I got are very good book, they are heavy illustrated, very impressed!
